We care, we share, for the future we prepare
Mathematics teaches us how to make sense of the world around us through developing a child’s ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives. Through their growing knowledge and understanding, children learn to appreciate the contribution made by many cultures to the development and application of mathematics.
At Shaftesbury Junior School we use a mastery approach to teaching maths. We teach through the Ready to Progress criteria to ensure we deliver a balanced Maths curriculum. We hope during the four years that our pupils are with us they will become confident children who are resilient, fluent mathematicians.
To do this we use a range of different strategies and resources to enrich our Maths teaching and make it accessible, engaging and give it purpose for the children.
Maths Homework!
At SJS we have launch our new Family Maths Homework scrapbooks!
Working in partnership with National Numeracy, we are encouraging our families to work together to solve a fortnightly maths problem. We want our parents to encourage their children to engage in maths in the real world and for our children to share with their parents how the solve problems with jotting in school.
Please find below the homework tasks we have shared to far.
There is also a link to National Numeracy where you can learn more about how to support your child with Maths, even if you are not confident your self. National Numeracy also offer support to develop Maths skills as an adult and this can be found through the link too.
If you have any questions, please speak to one of the schools Numeracy Champions, Mrs Justesen, Mrs Vardalia or Mr Page!
