Year 3 have made a brilliant start to life at Shaftesbury Junior School. I have been impressed with the resilience they have all shown since they have been back. The class have been very enthusiastic to jump back into learning and they have immersed themselves into the curriculum. I am looking forward to a brilliant year ahead with so much to look forward to!

At the beginning of the term, each child will be provided with a homework grid. Please hand in homework every Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing some great pieces of homework!

Curriculum Overview Year 3 21-22

Curriculum

History and Geography

In topic this term we have been earning about life as an Egyptian. We are learning when this happened in history, how they lived, comparing their lives to ours.

Maths

At Shaftesbury Junior School, we follow the White Rose program in Maths. We began this term with a unit on Place Value. We have now moved onto addition and subtraction. We will reinforce the  times tables learned in Year 2, which were the 2x, 5x and 10x but we will soon begin looking at the Year 3 times tables which are 3x, 4x and 8x. We will also be looking at Measures - Money, Fractions. 

English

We will be starting this term using a text - Winter's Child. To tie in with our history unit, we will be using the text of 'The Egyptian Cinderella' in our English lessons. We have written letters, described settings and created a missing person profile. Next term, we will focus on character descriptions and work on our vocabulary choices.

Science

This term we have begun looking at Animals including humans. In this topic we will be covering food groups; skeletons - different types and parts of the human skeleton.

French

We are currently looking at the early acquisition of the language and working on the pronunciation of the vowels. We have now moved onto looking at different types of animals in French.

PSHE

We are currently following the Jigsaw programme, in which we are looking at the dreams and goals and healthy me.

Religious Education

At Shaftesbury we follow the Leicester Agreed Syllabus. We ensure the children meet the requirements by holding RE days termly. The first for year 3 will be in term 2, which will cover 'How does a Christian follow Jesus?' and 'Who is our neighbour?'

Physical Education

Year 3 have their PE session on Thursdays. This term we will be learning a variety of inclusive activities.
